In Lesson 8 of my Professor Jason Jump Start Brazilian Portuguese series I talk about gender and number and the issue of agreement, a grammatical feature of Brazilian Portuguese that requires articles and adjectives to agree in number and gender with nouns. We'll also look at verbal agreement, the requirement that verb forms agree with their subjects.

http://luisateacher.wix.com/learnportuguese Do you want to learn Brazilian Portuguese to travel to Brazil? Today, I'll teach you the first lesson you should learn to really become able to speak Brazilian Portuguese. But, first let me introduce myself! My name is Luisa, I am from Brazil and I am a teacher of Brazilian Portuguese as a second language as well as an English teacher, that's why I believe I can help you understand and speak my native language easily! Let's get started then! „Brazilian Portuguese doesn't sound as it should sound, so it can be a bit tricky to pronounce the words correctly, but I’ll give you some tips to make it easier for you to speak like native speakers do. The L at the end of words sounds like a “oo”in English, so the words ending in “al”, “el”, “il”, “ol”or “ul” sound like this Papel (paper) Mal (bad) azul (blue) „“nh”sounds like “ny”in English Tenho (I have) Senhor (Sir) Minha (My) „“ti”sounds like “chi” Tinha (I had) Tia (Aunt) Tigre (Tiger) „J sounds like “zh” Janela (Window) Beijar (To kiss) Janeiro (January) „The “r” at the beginning or the “rr” in the middle of a word sounds like a guttural “h”sound in English. Carro (Car) Rua (Street) Rio (River) „The Letter “H” in Brazilian Portuguese is silent. Hospital (Hospital) Hotel (Hotel) „“LH” sounds like “LY” in English Filha (daughter) Toalha (Towel) Mulher (Woman) „“TE” at the end of a word sounds like “chee” However in the south of Brazil the pronunciation is TE Leite (milk) Noite (night) Doente (sick) „“DE” at the end of the word sounds like “gee” in English Saudade (to miss someone) Pode (Can) Cidade (City) „The letters EM at the end of a word or a syllable sounds like ING. Do not close your lips when you pronounce the M in those situations Bem (Well) Cem (one hundred) „The words that finish in ÃO have a nasal sound that doesn’t exist in English, so let’s practice it now! Não (No) Pão (Bread) Irmão (Brother) To conclude this lesson read the sentence below Minha filha está doente e eu a levei ao hospital de carro Now, listen to me as I read this sentence: Minha filha está doente e eu a levei ao hospital de carro Learn these tips and you won't have any problems learning Brazilian Portuguese.
